I Get A Lot Of Emails!
If you want to email me, the address I use for all Parliamentary Candidate correspondence is karl@karldrinkwater.uk.
I do get to every email eventually, but I have received hundreds of messages in the last few weeks, and it’s almost a full time job to respond to each one with the detail it deserves! There are often multiple topics per email. Many of them link to pledges and organisational manifestos that need reading and considering. I check all the requests against the Green Party manifesto, and then sign, reply, and explain where we stand and what my personal views are. And it is wonderful to be able to fully support the progressive ideas that flood my inbox! Also to receive such heartfelt thanks from people who have decided to turn green. Some of them are incredibly touching. Here’s a brief sample of (anonymised) messages I’ve received in the last week:
Diolch o galon i chi Karl. Pob dymuniad da atoch!
Much appreciated thank you - we were really heartened to see the Green's manifesto and we hope to be able to work closely with you post-election!
I was a Labour party member when Corbyn became leader, and left when the Right of labour, the New Conservatives, took over. They are no longer New Labour but New Conservatives, led by Starmer. I’ll now be voting Green.
Let's hope we're not all heading to Hell in a handcart with this election. It bothers me that many parties seem to be sinking to the lowest common denominator. It would be so easy for us to end up in a much less free country than we'd like. Had a little look at your blog - first time ever bothered with a blog!! Thank you. Our four cats approve 😻😸😹😺
That's a brilliant blog post! I love this quote - so unequivocal about the issue: "I regularly refer to that kind of lobbying as bribery, because that’s what it is: money and privileges and promises in exchange for favours. Despicable and greedy."
Thank you Karl for your moral integrity. I will be voting for you and the Green Party for the first time ever come this election, my decision utterly persuaded by the Green Party's stance. Its an absolute no brainer, my conscience will not allow me to support any political party that does NOT condemn human right abuses. I am disgusted at the main political party's stances which are completely complicit in this matter, which in turn means my taxes are supporting these atrocities directly in arms and indirectly via political cover! And let us not also forget the innocent Israeli hostages and their families whom with a PERMANENT ceasefire would be returned to their families. Peace in this situation will only ever be achieved through negotiation and never by the current unbridled violence and bloodshed unleashed not only in Gaza but the occupied West Bank too!
And this one in particular hit me in the gut, because it is how I have often felt:
thanks for getting back to me,am sure your very busy, but just thought I’d send you a reply,I currently an have always had a passion for flora&forna an always will,it makes me upset to hear an read about so many bad things happening to our planet,I don’t know how much Mother Earth can take before it snaps,I have hope ,but not much with what I read. I’ve already decided,I hate every other party an will vote for the Green Party ,it’s the only one I like whether you win or not,no matter who knocks at my door,I hope you can start or influence a change in our priorities Karl. I used to watch foxes playing outside our house when I was a kid,I see I’ve noticed so much more damage as I’ve grown up,I feel like there’s no hope ,we’re too late,as greedy selfish people in power(not just politicians) but the big companies that influence them have more power ,an I do feel hopeless to help,or see the light of a better world ahead, but I’ll still vote for the Green Party either way…. I don’t want to vote for anyone bar your party to be honest, there all nobheads in my opinion, taking money from fossil fuel giants ,an at the same time pledging environmental goals? It’s ridiculous. But I’m not surprised, u can count on me voting green, already got the “i’m a climate voter” poster in my window from greenpeace, for anyone who knocks…
And the email isn’t all. There are phone calls, interviews, husting requests, internal administration, research, canvassing (which needn’t always be door-to-door), support for other candidates, and social media. Oh, and trying to make a living as a self-employed person (author)! And today I am also meant to be working on a community local Place Plan, building in environmental elements so that it will be able to influence Local Development Plans for the better over the next ten years.
The life of a Parliamentary candidate is never dull, that’s for sure.
Please Make Sure You Use The Correct Address
As noted above, karl@karldrinkwater.uk is my email address. Some places list an incorrect one which I’ve never used, dwyfor.meirionnydd@votegreen.uk (I don’t even have access to that account). If you have that in your contact details, please update it if you want to get in touch.
I’m aware the Green Party’s candidate list also currently has the wrong address (and does not list my website or Facebook either, oops) but I have emailed them about it and hopefully they will correct it soon.
Like all Greens, I look forward to hearing from you!
Top Tip: Who Can I Vote For?
The Who Can I Vote For? site is great for contacting the Parliamentary candidates in your area. Just enter your postcode and it will bring up a list. So for Dwyfor Meirionnydd you’ll find all seven of us who are standing. It’s great that five of the seven are women.
