Definitely dumb for me. I've had a succession of the same model of Sony Ericsson, all second-hand, over the years. My current one is on its last legs and as it's getting harder to find yet another replacement I'm finally going to have to get something new. All I need it for is calls, texts, and photos. So, out of interest (ok, laziness on my part!) what's the dumbphone you have / recommend? I'm not bothered about the music player but a torch would be handy.

Mine is actually a first generation smartphone I bought for work. But it is so old it doesn't have Google Play (and the screen doesn't work but it has a fold-out mini keyboard). But I think you can also still buy your kind of phone. I also have maybe two in a drawer that people gave me for when this dies. I can check what models they are and you could have one if you want (no idea what condition/batteries etc, though they are both still boxed).

Thanks. I'll look into ‘new’ dumbphones when I get home and take it from there. I was just trying to outsource my research & thinking to you!

Well, if you do want a free Nokia 2220 Slide or Samsung Keystone2, just let me know. :-)

I have suffered with no sense of direction all of my life so the thought of having no google maps brings me out in a cold sweat. What's your thoughts on having a sat nav fitted in an old vehicle? Does it defeat the object?

Mmm, I've never used a sat-nav or owned a car. When I go anywhere I look in advance on street view, and print out any maps. That may not be suitable for everyone. I'm trying to get away from gadgets, but everyone has to do what's best for them. :-)

with an e-ink screen i would need that phone to be basically an e-reader, with a better UI than apple’s Books App (high bar to clear for visual design, but not that hard to beat if you could give me a feature for exporting my annotations). the mudita website mentions music and ‘ebooks,’ but with no technical specifications (is it compatible with epub files? is there a bookstore or would you need to use your computer to download new books?) or pictures of what that e-reading UI looks like, at all, anywhere on their website that i could find.

All fair points. I'd want to read pdfs (in mono), but don't know if zooming would work or be smooth.

I get all my ebooks from Humble Bundles, and own too many to ever read, so I'd be fine for content. :-)
