I wrote about my Golwg interview yesterday. Well, now the article has been published and now you can read it, too!
Truer Democracy
I could expand on so many things, but I’ll just focus on the bit about voting on the House of Lords, monarchy or independence. These were just examples of how, whenever there is a general election (or devolved election), there could also be referenda on a range of topics on the same ballot paper. No extra cost since people are already voting, and it would make elections more democratic. Why shouldn’t we get to vote on whether the US puts more military bases in our nation? Why shouldn’t we get a say in whether we provide weapons to a state when we know those bombs are being used to slaughter civilians? Why shouldn’t the people get to decide what salary MPs get, rather than the MPs choosing their own salaries (which is the current system, and is obviously corrupt). It’s an example of how things could be far more democratic. Obviously Conservatives and Labour would hate this idea. (Even before they find out I call it Drinkitisation of Democracy.)

What you're proposing, Karl, would be much more democratic. Thanks for posting and I hope you get elected.
